Scams and lies

There is an abundance of adoption-related sleaze in the news today, all of which deserves to be repeated and widely disseminated.

Starting in South Carolina, this report from Spartanburg that asks of an Internet ad: Real or scam?

Apparently, some guy named "Franc" is claiming on postaroo.com to have lost his wife and says he's now looking for "prospective foster parents" for his baby girl, Brenda. The ad has a photo of a man with a baby. Franc says he is in Spartanburg.

The local TV station started looking around, though, and found the same ad listed in every city on the site with Franc's location changing to match the city. Some investigation is going on.

In the meantime, do we need to be reminded that there are right ways and not right ways to approach every angle of adoption? Advertising kids like used cars and shopping for kids through ads like those for used cars is the not right way.

From California, there are many questions about one Maya-Anne Mays and whether or not she's pregnant.

Not that it matters at this juncture, however, as conditions of her parole ban her from trying to place a child for adoption after being convicted of scamming potential adoptive families and earning herself a three-year sentence for grand theft in 2004. Still on probation, it is likely that will be revoked and she'll be back in the slammer for a year.

Let's hope she's just round, shall we?

On the international adoption front, Guatadopt has a more-than-20-page download of the statement from the adoptive family victimized by adoption facilitator from hell Mary Bonn that was read out by the father of the child at issue at the sentencing hearing.

The suffering these parents went through was horror enough, but what the child endured under Ms. Bonn's scheme puts the case well into the "if only" category of appropriate justice.

And from Uganda, over 1000 people who don't deserve such a fate are left high and dry after an NGO set up to provide financial support and a method of saving, Care for Orphans, Widows and Elderly, has seen the backs of the District Coordinator and seven employees. Of course, the money is gone, too.

What a world, huh?

Gee, nothing like preying on a hopeful family for some financial gain. I hope there's a special place in hell for people like this.
