Madonna's adoption ... or not-yet-adoption, rather -- is
back in the headlines.
Like so much of the coverage of celebrity adoptions ... or not-yet-adoptions ... the story has no substance.
Today's news is actually about nothing, but that doesn't mean there's not
a heck of a lot of it.
There is, so far, no news on the Malawian take on the adoption, and their Child Welfare Services department is still going through their processes.
Of course, not everyone is happy.
"We have reservations about Malawi's ability to oversee the Madonna adoption on its own," said Maxwell Matewere of Eye of the Child, which is part of the Human Rights Consultative Committee. "We are a little worried whether Kilembe [the Malawian official] is competent enough to assess the U.K. environment and to make a fair conclusion on the whole process."
An interesting quirk in South Australia's adoption law is
getting a look these days.
Apparently it's illegal for adopted children and their families to talk publicly about their lives without government permission.
Whether or not this has anything to do with the
horrid history of adoption there I wrote about yesterday isn't stated, but that's where my mind goes when hearing about this.
The official Chinese media take on reaction to the country's new guidelines on international adoption of Chinese kids that went into effect on the first of May is
pretty darned predictable, with a "senior official with the China Centre of Adoption Affairs" claiming the new restrictions have "won international support" and "widespread praise".
In typical lingo it states that the new rules ensure that Chinese children are adopted by "qualified foreign families" and that they "shorten the waiting time of candidate families and relieve their anxiety".
Happy to hear that all you waiting families have been relieved of your anxiety.
I've written before about Snowflake embryo adoption, but didn't realize until I saw
this today that the organization is federally funded.
Hmmmmmmm.
And for readers in my hometown (Sacramento, California), the
Heart Gallery exhibition is coming to town.
Scheduled to run from the 28th of August through the 22nd of September in Sac State's Library Gallery, there will be 30 amazing photos of 30 lovely children ... out of 1,500 in Sacramento County ... all in need of families.
Check it out!
