Yet again, the fabooooolous world of celebrity ... where ever and what ever that may be ... is spreading its imposing ripples into the adoption community pond, and since this is a news blog I suppose I might as well take some of my finite time and energy and waste a bit on disseminating the attention those wavelets demand in the their wet, pathetic little way.
(Can you tell I write this celeb stuff grudgingly? Oh, yes you can!)
The coin toss with this sort of thing is always which way to go ... sublime to ridiculous -- yeah, like the first is possible -- or vice versa.
Okay ... that's settled ...
Paris Hilton is going to Rwanda.
Yep, as part of what this person famous for nothing more than being rich and spoiled is calling her commitment to use her celebrity to bring the spotlight to what she feels are important causes around the world, she'll be heading off for Rwanda in November.
Any guesses as to what the spotlight will be shining upon each and every titillatingly trite and paparazzi-filled moment she is there?
But, doesn't she mean well? Bless her heart ...
"I want to visit more countries where poverty and children's issues are a big concern," the 26-year-old socialite said. "I know there's a lot of good I can do just by getting involved and bringing attention to these issues."
Question number 42, Miss Hilton (the first 41 being way too obvious to even bother typing): What, exactly, will your involvement entail?
Perhaps I'm being too cynical. (
Moi?) Maybe there are actually people out there in the world for whom the Rwandan genocide and the present fate of children in Africa will only come to light once Paris Hilton visits the country and illuminates the history and the demographics of that struggling continent.
Somebody please shoot me if that's true.
Moving right along ... Deborah Harry has apparently foolishly
mentioned the word "adoption" in a public place, so the 63-year-old Blondie star is in the news as a potential adoptive parent.
Whatever.
And as always, rarely a day goes by without something relating to the Jolie-PItt clan,
this one about how even the rich parents of Maddox's school mates can act like idiots.
And to end on a higher note, which isn't easy when the topic is celebrities, country music star and adult adoptee
Rodney Atkins has been named National Celebrity Spokesperson of the Year but the
National Council for Adoption.
Adopted as an infant, Rodney "speaks from personal experience about the benefits of adoption."
