Back in February, two small Kentucky children were outside playing when they happened upon a shoe box. Inside the box they found a small
newborn baby, wrapped up in a blanket as well as a plastic shopping bag for warmth. The little boy was full term, and weighed more than five pounds, and was estimated to be about two hours old.
Kentucky does have a
Safe Infant Act, allowing parents, or someone acting on their behalf, to leave an infant younger than three days old at a safe place, such as a hospital, police station, fire station, or even a emergency medical service provider. Parents will not be prosecuted for leaving a less than 72 hours old infant, as long as the baby is taken to a safe place and has not been abused or neglected.
The small box that the baby was found in contained no identifying information as to where, or whom, the baby came from.
The baby's foster mother, Anna Camp, has
adopted the little boy into her family of five, and is thrilled that her new son was found in time so that he now has a chance to be "a happy little guy."
The baby, now developing into a happy and lively toddler, whom had such a rough start in life, with absolutely no one to lean on, now has a forever home, with parents and siblings that surround him with love. This lucky little guy has received the best gift of all this holiday season, the gift of family.
